Former Governor of Oyo State, in South-West Nigeria, Adebayo Alao-Akala is dead.
Alao-Akala died at the age of 71 in his hometown of Ogbomoso, on Wednesday.
Media Assistant to the former Governor, Tolu Mustapha confirmed his death to ait.live but denied that Alao-Akala died as a result of ill health.
Alao-Akala became Governor of Oyo State in January 2006 following the impeachment of Governor Rasheed Ladoja while he was Deputy Governor.

He was later elected Oyo State Governor in 2007 and left office in 2011 after which he faced corruption charges. He was however discharged and acquitted of graft in December last year.
The late former Governor retired as Assistant Commissioner of Police and won his first election in 1998 as Chairman of Ogbomosho North LGA of Oyo State.
