African Democratic Congress, ADC, has raised alarm over an alleged plot that the President Bola Tinubu-led federal government is mounting pressure on the Federal High Court judge who is presiding over its case involving a factional leader, Nafiu Bala.

The opposition coalition asked the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC to immediately cease all alleged attempts to interfere through continuous pressure on the judge, Justice Nwite to recuse himself from the trial.

ADC National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi in a statement disclosed that the legal team uncovered a disturbing plot by desperate forces within the corridors of power to frustrate the course of justice by mounting pressure on Justice Nwite to step aside for reassignment of the case to another judge perceived to be pliable and politically compliant.

The coalition party said if allowed to stand it will represents a direct assault on the integrity of the judiciary and a dangerous escalation in the ongoing attempts to weaponise state institutions against the opposition.

ADC however called on the National Judicial Council, NJC, the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Kudirat Kekere-Ekun, the international community as well as men and women of conscience within the judiciary to urgently intervene and halt the alleged move.

The party further asked them to pay close attention to “the dangerous developments and impress it upon the Nigerian government that democracy cannot survive where courts are manipulated to serve partisan interests”.
