Six persons have been confirmed dead following an explosion along the Bagega-Anka Road in Anka Local Government Area of Zamfara State, North-West Nigeria. The explosive device is suspected to have been planted by bandits operating in the area.
Confirming the incident to AIT.live via telephone conversation, the State Police Command Public Relations Officer, Yazid Abubakar, said the incident occurred at about 9:30 a.m. on Thursday, May 7, 2026, involving a commercial vehicle travelling along the major road linking Bagega to Anka Local Government Area.
According to the police spokesperson, a total of 12 persons were involved in the incident. Six victims were confirmed dead on the spot, while the remaining six sustained varying degrees of injuries and were evacuated to a nearby healthcare facility for treatment.
Yazid added that the Command, under the directive of the Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Bello, has deployed security personnel to the area for surveillance, while normalcy has since been restored.
Bagega community in Anka Local Government Area is one of the major gold mining communities in Zamfara State and has continued to experience frequent bandit activities.
