One of Nigeria’s newest political parties, the Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC, has taken a major step towards the 2027 general elections with the successful conduct of its first national convention in Abuja.
Delegates and party faithful from across the country converged on the nation’s capital for the historic gathering, marking the formal launch of the party’s national structure.
The convention featured the inauguration of key organs of the party, ratification of its constitution, and the emergence of national officers expected to steer its affairs ahead of the next electoral cycle.

With its first national convention, the NDC now faces the task of consolidating its structure and expanding its grassroots presence across the country.
Officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC were present to monitor the NDC national convention. NDC is one of the two new political parties registered by the Commission on February 5, 2026.
