The Kogi State Police Command says it has restored normalcy to the Oganenigu Community in Dekina Local Government Area following reports of tension in the axis.
This follows the strategic deployment of tactical teams to the area to prevent a breakdown of law and order.
According to a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, Kogi State Police Command, ASP SALIU OYIZA AFUSAT, the Commissioner of Police, CP Naziru Bello Kankarofi, immediately deployed the Police Mobile Force and the Violent Crime Response Unit to the community.
The statement explained that the tension is linked to longstanding clashes between some villagers and herders, noting that while some residents had temporarily relocated out of fear of reprisal attacks, confidence-building patrols are currently ongoing to ensure their safe return.
It also noted that contrary to claims in the circulating video, only one (1) death has been officially confirmed, and the Command urges the public to disregard unverified reports of further fatalities as investigations continue.
ASP SALIU OYIZA AFUSAT said the Divisional Police Officer and deployed operatives are actively engaging community leaders and stakeholders to sustain peace and encourage residents to resume their normal activities without fear.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Naziru Bello Kankarofi, has since reassured residents of the Command’s unwavering commitment to sustained peace and security across the area, while commending the tactical teams for their prompt response.
