The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has scheduled June 20, 2026, for conduct of bye-election to fill the vacant Zuru State Constituency seat in the Kebbi House of Assembly.
The seat became vacant following the death of the Speaker of the Assembly, Muhammad Usman Zuru.
State Resident Electoral Commissioner, REC, Abubakar Dambo, confirmed the date during a stakeholders’ forum in the state capital.
He noted that the commission received formal notification of the vacancy from the State House of Assembly and subsequently secured approval from its Abuja headquarters to conduct the polls.
Dambo also announced the commencement of the third and final phase of the Continuous Voter Registration, CVR.
He encouraged eligible citizens who have turned 18 to seize this final window to register and obtain their Permanent Voter Cards, PVCs. The REC further revealed that Kebbi State is currently ranked among the top three states nationwide for the highest number of voter registration, a feat he attributed to the high level of civic engagement in the state.
