Police have restored calm in Ogbomoso and Ajaawa after false alarm about bandits attack caused panic on Monday.
There were rumours that armed men had invaded Are-Ago High School, prompting immediate deployment of patrol and surveillance teams to the area.
Investigations revealed that the alarm started when students spotted unfamiliar individuals behind the school fence.
The individuals were identified as an NSCDC officer attached to Kwara State Command and two civilians visiting a friend for a birthday celebration.
A brief altercation with teachers heightened suspicion, leading students to spread unverified claims to neighbouring schools and communities.
Police Pubic Relations Officer of Oyo State Command, Ayanlade Olayinka confirmed that there was no attack or security breach.
Patrols were intensified and stakeholders engaged to reassure residents. Normal academic and commercial activities have resumed.
The Command warned against spreading fake news and unverified security reports, stating that offenders will be investigated and prosecuted.
Residents were urged to verify information with security agencies and report credible intelligence through the state’s emergency lines.
