Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara

Siminalayi Fubara has withdrawn from the All Progressives Congress, APC, governorship primary in Rivers State, saying peace, stability and the broader interest of the state must take precedence over personal ambition.

In a statement issued Wednesday evening, the Rivers State governor said the decision followed wide consultations with family, political allies and associates, adding that leadership sometimes demands difficult sacrifices.

Governor Fubara acknowledged that the move may disappoint many of his supporters, but maintained that his actions were guided by what he described as the overriding interest of Rivers State.

He said his silence in recent weeks had been “intentional and strategic,” while also alluding to mounting political pressure and difficult decisions throughout the process.

The governor thanked members of the APC for their support during the consultations and expressed appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his encouragement.

Governor Fubara also urged party members to remain united and support whoever eventually emerges as the party’s candidate.

He stressed that his withdrawal from the race should not be interpreted as fear or weakness, but as a decision driven by conviction and the need to protect stability in Rivers State.

The governor reaffirmed his commitment to continue serving the people of Rivers State until the expiration of his tenure.
