The African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Ondo State may be facing internal dissent as some members of the Party on Thursday staged a protest over the alleged imposition of candidates and the disqualification of some aspirants seeking the party’s ticket ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Carrying placards with various inscriptions, the protesters accused Party officials of manipulating the screening process and alleged that the disqualification of some aspirants was influenced by bribery and other irregularities.
The aggrieved members warned that they could abandon the Party if the decision to disqualify those they described as “leading” aspirants, is not reviewed and reversed.
They further alleged that certain members of the Party leadership were misinterpreting the ADC constitution to favour selected individuals at the expense of the wishes of Party stakeholders and grassroots members.
Reacting to the protest in a telephone interview with ait.live, the Ondo State Chairman of the ADC, Tola Alabere, urged the protesters and affected aspirants to seek redress through the Party’s internal dispute-resolution mechanisms rather than taking their grievances to the public.
Alabere maintained that the Party remains committed to due process and advised all aggrieved members to allow the appropriate Organs of the ADC to address their concerns.
