Nigeria’s Vice President Kashim Shettima has led top All Progressives Congress (APC) leaders in Borno State to the Party’s governorship primary election, where Engineer Mustapha Gubio emerged as the flagbearer for the 2027 election.
Shettima, who departed Maiduguri for Abuja immediately after the exercise, said the process was part of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s agenda to place credible leaders in positions that can deliver security, economic growth, and a better future for Nigerians.
The Vice President urged Party members to bury their differences and work for a united front ahead of the polls. He stressed that only credible leadership could translate the administration’s promises into tangible benefits for citizens, and reminded members that power ultimately comes from God.
Governor Babagana Umara Zulum thanked stakeholders for their support and described the consensus around Gubio as a sign of maturity within the Borno APC.
Engineer Gubio, who emerged unopposed, pledged to build on the State’s developmental strides and to lead with integrity and the fear of God if elected.
The governorship primary election was attended by APC Deputy National Chairman (North), Hon. Ali Bukar Dalori; Senators M.T. Monguno and Kaka Shehu Lawan, members of the National Assembly, the Speaker and members of the State House of Assembly, Commissioners, and other Party leaders.
Political analysts say the seamless exercise and high-level attendance signal the APC’s push to secure early unity in key States ahead of 2027 General elections.
