President Bola Tinubu has emerged as the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the 2027 general election after securing a landslide victory in the party’s nationwide direct primaries.

The president defeated his only challenger, Stanley Osifo, in the exercise conducted across 8,809 wards across the country.

The national collation of results took place at the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre in Abuja, where APC governors, party leaders, and supporters gathered for the exercise.

At the end of the collation, President Tinubu polled 10.99 million votes, while Osifo secured 16,504 votes.

Results from the primaries were presented by APC governors, state coordinators, and collation officers to the Presidential Primary Election Committee chaired by former Senate President Pius Anyim.

Speaking during the exercise, APC National Chairman Professor Nentawe Yilwatda described the outcome as a reflection of the unity and strength of the ruling party ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Some governors and party stakeholders also described the outcome as a vote of confidence in President Tinubu’s reforms and leadership style.

In his acceptance speech, President Tinubu described his emergence as another milestone in Nigeria’s democratic journey and pledged to consolidate ongoing reforms and strengthen national development.

The president highlighted achievements of his administration in education, power, infrastructure, and economic reforms, including the student loan scheme, improved power generation, and the removal of fuel subsidy.

He also acknowledged the economic and security challenges facing the country, assuring Nigerians that his administration would continue to prioritise economic stability, national unity, and security.

President Tinubu called on Nigerians to support his administration’s efforts at building what he described as a more secure, united, and prosperous nation ahead of the 2027 elections.
