The Senator Kabiru Marafa -led – faction of the All Progressives Congress, (APC) in Zamfara State has asked Governor Bello Mohammed to stop playing politics with religion and security in the overall interest of the state.

A statement by the Publicity Secretary of Mafara’s faction of APC, Bello Bakyasuwa said, using religion and security as tools for political blackmail is “ungodly, unethical, malicious, cowardly and a recipe for perpetuation of anarchy in state”.

Bakyasuwa stressed that the recent happenings in Zamfara State where Governor Mohammed is using politics and religion against the opposition necessitated the call by the APC Marafa’s faction to stop the menace before things go out of control.

The spokesperson said in the last couple of months, every week comes with one controversy or the other arising from the mischief of accusing leading opposition political figures with a campaign of calumny shrouded in religion and insecurity.

He said, the most recent of those instances was the posters of former Governor Abdul’Azeez Yari and two of his loyalists with MaIam Ibrahim El Zak-Zaky that was displayed in strategic places within the Zamfara State.

The statement is quoted as saying “understanding is that this is a cowardly act to create false association between the former Governor and the Shi’ite leader to score a cheap political point from public antagonism to the group”.

Bakyasuwa also added that one person was arrested wearing a jersey with the picture of Senator Marafa during the military strike against the bandits and that was used as a news item in mushroom online media for another cheap blackmail”.

He maintained that other related accusations were made and publicized against Hon. Muttaka Rini and Dauda Lawal Dare all from the opposition camps of the APC which which are considered condemnable.

“As a formidable stakeholder in the social and political stability of the state, we are seriously disturbed by the trend evidence in those examples and more”.

It said Senator Kabiru Marafa condemned these acts of mischief in totality and considered them capable of worsening the security situation in the state.

The APC Marafa’s faction specially call on Islamic Scholars to rise up to their responsibility of preaching against baseless accusations on people because Islam and Shari’a for which the state is known for and to stand firmly against them.

The APC faction wants all citizens of the State to collectively channel energies not in politics, but in fighting the common enemy of insecurity caused by banditry and helping hundreds of thousands of Internally Displaced Persons in the state.
