Former Minister of Power, Saleh Mamman, has finally been transferred from custody of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, to Kuje Correctional Centre in Abuja, where he has begun serving his 75-year jail term.

Justice James Omotosho of the Federal High Court, Abuja, gave the order on Tuesday after the EFCC, presented Mamman before the court following his arrest in Kaduna State, North-West Nigeria.

The EFCC also filed an application seeking the forfeiture of five additional properties allegedly linked to the former minister.

During the proceedings, the court heard that Mamman fled Abuja to Kaduna by taxi shortly after his conviction and sentencing earlier this month.

A relative, Shamsudeen Mohammed, told the court that he assisted Mamman because he was ill and receiving traditional treatment.

Justice Omotosho said Mamman’s prison term officially begins immediately and reminded him that he was absent during both his conviction and sentencing.

The judge adjourned hearing on the new asset forfeiture application until June 8, 2026, to allow Mamman secure legal representation.

The EFCC had prosecuted Mamman on 16 amended counts involving alleged money laundering and unlawful property acquisitions totaling over N33.8 billion.

He was convicted on May 7, 2026, sentenced on May 13, and later declared wanted after repeatedly failing to appear in court.

EFCC operatives eventually arrested him on May 19, 2026, at a hideout in Rigasa, Kaduna State.
