Federal High Court in Abuja has fixed July 2, 2026, for judgement in the case involving the final forfeiture of 57 properties linked to former Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami.
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, is seeking the permanent forfeiture of the properties to the Federal Government.
At Tuesday’s proceedings, EFCC counsel, J.S. Okutepa, SAN, told the court that the matter was slated for hearing of the final forfeiture application and other pending motions.
Counsel to the defence, Adedayo Adedeji, SAN, however informed the court that the respondents had filed 16 motions challenging the interim forfeiture order earlier granted by the court on January 6, 2026.
The defence argued that the properties were not proceeds of crime and urged the court to dismiss the EFCC’s application for final forfeiture.
In response, the EFCC said it had filed a detailed counter affidavit, supported by exhibits and legal arguments, insisting that the respondents failed to justify why the assets should not be permanently forfeited to the Federal Government.
Justice Joyce Abdulmalik subsequently reserved judgement until July 2, 2026.
