The rush for the Continuous Voter Registration, CVR exercise is gathering momentum in Zamfara State, North-West Nigeria as residents troop to offices of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC to beat the deadline ahead of the 2027 general election.

At several registration centres in Gusau, large crowds were seen waiting to either register for the first time or update their voter details.

Monday, May 11, 2026 marked the commencement of the third and final phase of the ongoing CVR ahead of the 2027 general election. The exercise is expected to end on July 10, 2026.

With barely a few weeks left before the deadline, eligible voters in Gusau and other parts of Zamfara State have continued to besiege registration centres in a desperate bid to secure their Permanent Voter Cards, PVCs.

For many residents, the process represents more than just registration. It is another opportunity to have their voices heard through the ballot.

Despite the enthusiasm, INEC officials say the exercise has not been without challenges.

They cited limited capturing machines, network issues, and the increasing cases of underaged persons presenting themselves for registration as factors slowing down the process.

As the registration exercise continues, electoral officials expect turnout across the remaining 13 local government areas of Zamfara State to reflect the growing interest witnessed in Gusau.
