Reports from Benin city, the Edo State capital has shown that Team AIT has booked a place in the final of the maiden edition of the Raymond Aleogho Dokpesi Memorial Media Cup, which is in honour of the late founder of DAAR Communications Plc – a man who is widely regarded as a trailblazer in Nigeria’s broadcast industry.
The tournament organised by the Edo State Football Association in partnership with DAAR Communications Plc, brought together key players in the media and sports sectors to celebrate the life and enduring legacy of the late Media icon.
Media practitioners and sports enthusiasts gathered at the Lucky Igbinedion Sports Complex in Benin city for the maiden edition of the Raymond Aleogho Dokpesi Memorial Media Cup.
Renowned for playing a leading role in the growth of private broadcasting in Nigeria, Dokpesi’s influence extended beyond the media industry to youth development, entertainment, sports promotion and national discourse.
The memorial football tournament is one of several initiatives aimed at immortalising his name and marking the third anniversary of his passing.
Media industry players and their sports sector counterparts said the football competition will not only celebrates Dokpesi’s immense contributions to broadcasting, but also reflects his enduring belief in unity, teamwork and youth empowerment through sports.
The opening semi-final maych between Team EBS and Team AIT lived up to expectations, ending in a thrilling four-four draw at regulation time.
The match proceeds to penalties, where Team AIT defeated Team EBS seven goals to six to secure the first ticket to the final.
In the second semi-final match, Team ITV advanced to the final via a walk-over following the absence of Media United.
The result sets up a highly anticipated final clash between Team AIT and Team ITV.
With the finalists now confirmed, the stage is set for another chapter in a competition dedicated to preserving the legacy of one of Nigeria’s of most influential broadcast Media
proprietor.
