Political ally of Peter Obi and rights activist, Aisha Yesufu had withdrawn from the Nigeria Democratic Congress NDC senatorial race for the Federal Capital Territory,FCT, bringing an end to her brief bid for the 2027 election.

Yesufu had, on May 6, declared her intention to contest the FCT senatorial seat after joining the NDC from the African Democratic Congress, ADC, citing the leadership experience she gained within the party as a key motivation for her ambition.

But recents developments within the party pointed to internal realignments over the FCT senatorial ticket, with indications that the NDC may have favoured another aspirant, Amanda Pam from north-central who had been a longstanding member of the party prior to Yesufu’s defection.
