In a fresh twist to the leadership crisis rocking the Accord Party, the faction led by Professor Chris Imumolem has conducted a presidential primary ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Delegates from Lagos and other states converged on Ikeja, Lagos, where Imumolem emerged through a voice affirmation and was later presented with the party’s flag as presidential candidate.
Imumolem, who also serves as factional national chairman of the party, was the sole aspirant in the exercise. He maintained that the party’s constitution permits a national chairman to contest the presidential ticket.
The primary, conducted in the presence of party supporters and officials said to be from INEC, comes as political parties conclude their primaries before the May 31, 2026 deadline.
While supporters described the exercise as a demonstration of internal democracy, the faction awaits INEC’s final position on the lingering leadership dispute within the party.
