Minority leader of the House of Representatives, Kingsley Chinda has formally resigned his position.
House Speaker, Tajudeen Abbas made the announcement at the resumption of plenary on Tuesday.
Chinda in a letter dated April 23, 2026, expressed gratitude to the House leadership and his former colleagues in the opposition for giving him the opportunity to serve, promising to continue to support the work of the legislature as a member of the House of Representatives.
This resignation comes after weeks of speculation over his status as a principal officer and member of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.
This followed Chinda’s sudden appearance at the governorship screening of the All Progressives Congress, APC and his subsequent emergence as governorship candidate of the ruling party in Rivers State, South-South Nigeria.
The letter however did not state his defection from the PDP to the APC.
