Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, has called on the Federal Government to immediately declare a state of emergency on insecurity following the persistent killings, kidnappings, and attacks across the country.
The call was made at the end of the 2026 National Church Denominational Leaders Summit on the State of the Nation and the Way Forward, held in Abuja, the nation’s capital.
Addressing journalists after the summit, CAN President, Daniel Okoh, expressed concern over the worsening security situation, saying urgent and decisive action is needed to protect lives and restore public confidence.
As part of measures to honour victims of insecurity, CAN declared June 12 a National Day of Mourning and announced that churches across the country would observe a Black Sunday Service on June 14 in solidarity with affected families and communities.
