The Nigeria Police Command in Edo State has dismissed reports circulating on social media alleging that students of Green Park Academy, Aduwawa, in Benin City were kidnapped, describing the claim as false and misleading.

In a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Eno Ikoedem, the Command said investigations revealed that no kidnapping incident occurred at the school as alleged in the viral report.

According to the statement, preliminary findings showed that the story circulated by a social media account identified as Azawoman was fabricated and intended to create unnecessary panic among residents.

The Command condemned the spread of false information capable of causing fear, undermining public confidence, and distracting security agencies from addressing genuine security concerns.

The Police also disclosed that efforts are ongoing to identify and apprehend the originator of the report for investigation and possible prosecution in line with extant laws.

The statement urged members of the public to verify information through credible and official sources before sharing it on social media, stressing that responsible communication remains vital to public order and security.

ASP Ikoedem further quoted the Commissioner of Police in Edo State, CP Monday Agbonika, as reassuring residents that the security situation across the state remains under control.

The Commissioner reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to protecting lives and property and appreciated residents for their continued support and cooperation in sustaining peace and security across Edo State.
