President Bola Tinubu has congratulated Nigeria’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Jimoh Ibrahim, on his election as Chairman of the United Nations General Assembly Fifth Committee on Budget and Administration.

The Fifth Committee is responsible for key administrative and budgetary matters within the UN system, including financial oversight and institutional reforms.

President Tinubu described the election as coming at a “critical moment” for the United Nations, as the global body continues efforts to manage financial realignments while pushing reforms aimed at improving efficiency, accountability, and long-term sustainability.

According to a statement issued by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President said Ambassador Ibrahim’s emergence reflects his extensive background in public service, diplomacy, business leadership, and governance.

Tinubu also referenced Ibrahim’s experience as a former member of Nigeria’s Senate Committee on Budget and Appropriation and his role as Chairman of Inter-Parliamentary Relations, noting that these positions have prepared him for the demands of the international assignment.

“Your election to chair this important committee within weeks of official resumption at the UN validates your wealth of experience in public service, diplomacy, business leadership, and governance,” Tinubu said.

The President further highlighted Ibrahim’s academic and professional background in law, international taxation, and business administration, describing it as a strong foundation for contributions to global financial governance.

He expressed confidence that Ambassador Ibrahim will bring credibility and competence to the role, adding that his performance would further enhance Nigeria’s reputation at the United Nations.

“Congratulations once again on this remarkable achievement and on the confidence reposed in you by the international community,” the President added.

Meanwhile, the Senate has also congratulated Ambassador Jimoh Ibrahim, on his election as Chairman of the Fifth Committee of the United Nations General Assembly, describing the achievement as a proud moment for Nigeria and Africa.

The commendation came during plenary when President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio informed lawmakers of Ambassador Jimoh Ibrahim’s election to head the United Nations committee responsible for budgetary and administrative matters across the global organisation’s 193 member states.

Akpabio described the appointment as a significant international recognition of Nigeria’s leadership capacity and expertise, noting that the committee oversees an annual budget running into billions of dollars.

President of the Senate praised President Bola Tinubu for appointing Ibrahim as Nigeria’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, saying the decision had yielded positive results for the country on the global stage.

He also commended Ibrahim’s dedication to national service and his contributions to projecting a positive image of Nigeria internationally.

The Senate expressed confidence that Ambassador Ibrahim would bring his experience and expertise to bear in the discharge of his new responsibilities while continuing to make Nigeria proud in the international community.
