African Continental Free Trade Area, AfCFTA Says The Adoption Of Its Protocol On Intellectual Property Rights Marks A Major Step Towards Driving Industrial Development And Innovation Across The Continent.
Secretary-General of AfCFTA secretariat, Wamkele Mene, said this on the sidelines of the 18th meeting of the AfCFTA Council of Ministers responsible for trade in Abuja where he was honoured with the all Africa intellectual property leadership and continental integration award
Mene also stressed that a robust intellectual property regime will help unlock opportunities for African innovators, researchers and businesses, while supporting the continent’s ambition of building resilient industries and improving public health outcomes.
He noted that the framework will support the effective management of patents, trademarks and other intellectual property assets needed to boost the continent’s competitiveness.
