Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria, MACBAN, led by its National Secretary-General, Bello Gotomo, may have ruled out reprisal attacks over the recent killing of its Benue State Chairman, Ado Risku in Otukpo local government area.
This follows a condolence visit to the bereaved family in their Onyagede residence in Ohimini LGA by a delegation of the Benue State Government led by the Deputy Governor, Sam Ode.
Ode represented Governor Hycincth Alia on the delegation which included the AIG of police Zone 4 Dankombo Morris, who represented the Inspector-General of Police, along with heads of other security agencies, Benue State APC Chairman, and the national and state officials of MACBAN.
The Deputy Governor described the killing of MACBAN Chairman and his brother as unfortunate and unacceptable, promising that those behind the act will be brought to justice.
He also appealed to residents not to allow the incident to threaten the existing peace in the state.
Speaking on behalf of the Inspector-General of Police, AIG Morris said security agencies have commenced a joint investigation and urged residents to provide useful information that would assist ongoing efforts to bring those responsible to justice.
In his response, MACBAN National Secretary-General, Bello Gotomo, described the late chairman as a committed peace advocate whose death is a loss to both Benue State and Nigeria.
He commended security agencies over reported arrests and reaffirmed the association’s commitment to peaceful coexistence.
Responding on behalf of the family, son of the deceased, Mohammed Idris, appreciated the government, security agencies and MACBAN leadership for their support.
He called for a thorough investigation and urged members of the community to remain peaceful.
