The Nigerian Army has reaffirmed its commitment to protecting the nation’s sovereignty and addressing emerging security challenges as activities marking the 2026 Nigerian Army Day Celebration commence nationwide.
The assurance was given during special Juma’ah prayers and interdenominational church services held as part of activities marking the Army’s 163rd anniversary.
For one hundred and sixty-three years, the Nigerian Army has remained at the forefront of the country’s defence and internal security efforts.
As part of activities marking the 2026 Nigerian Army Day Celebration, officers, soldiers, veterans and their families gathered for special prayers to appreciate God for the institution’s achievements and honour personnel who made sacrifices in service to the nation.
This year’s celebration is themed: “Protecting the Nation and Serving the People: A Way Forward for the Nigerian Army.”
The General Officer Commanding One Division, who delivered the message of the Chief of Army Staff, said the Army remains committed to confronting terrorism, insurgency, banditry, kidnapping and other security threats across the country.
The Army leadership noted that recent operational successes were made possible through the courage and professionalism of troops working alongside other security agencies and relevant stakeholders.
The Nigerian Army also paid tribute to fallen heroes, wounded personnel, and veterans whose sacrifices continue to inspire future generations of soldiers.
The Army further highlighted that ongoing recruitment efforts are aimed at strengthening operational capacity and improving its ability to respond effectively to evolving security challenges.
