Scores of terrorists over this week suffered heavy losses when Nigerian troops, backed by local vigilante hunters, repelled an attack on the Dan Auta community in Beri Ward, Mariga Local Government Area of Niger State.
Confirming the incident in a statement, the Information Officer of Mariga Local Government Area, Muhammad Nura Salisu, said the joint operation was a success.
According to him, the gunmen were forced to retreat into the forest as residents reported seeing the terrorists evacuating the bodies of their fallen members as they fled.
Although the exact number of casualties could not be independently verified, security forces have continued clearance operations in the area.
Authorities have advised residents to suspend farming activities in affected communities until the operation is fully concluded.
Officials further urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious movements or activities to security agencies without delay.
