In Benue State, a major counter-offensive is underway in Logo Local Government Area, as security forces move in to reclaim communities overrun by armed herdsmen and bandits.
Benue State Police Commissioner, CP Cletus Nwadiogbu, personally led a joint tactical operation into the deserted villages of Ayilamo and Anyiin, promising displaced residents a safe return to their ancestral homes.
Heavily armed, battle-ready, and moving straight into enemy territory, Ayilamo is the front line in Logo Local Government Area. CP Nwadiogbu, alongside military units and police tactical teams, pushing deep into border communities that have suffered devastating attacks from violent criminal elements.
Once thriving agrarian hubs, Ayilamo and Anyiin now look like ghost towns. Thousands of local farmers have been killed or forced to flee into displacement camps as invaders laid siege to their homes.
During the clearance sweep, fleeing bandits fired several shots toward advancing security forces as they retreated across the border into neighboring Nasarawa State.
Positioned strategically near the borders of both Nasarawa and Taraba States, the frontline communities have long been vulnerable to cross-border incursions. But police chiefs insist the tide has turned.
For the thousands currently surviving in IDP camps, the show of force brings a long-awaited ray of hope. Community leaders have commended the Police Commissioner’s hands-on leadership, while authorities are urging nearby border villages to feed actionable intelligence to security forces to stop future attacks before they happen.
Joint security operations remain active along the borders of Nasarawa and Taraba States to prevent the bandits from regrouping.
