Troops of Operation FANSAN YAMMA in the North-West have rescued 27 kidnapped victims, recovered livestock and motorcycles and foiled several bandit operations during coordinated missions in Zamfara and Sokoto states.
The development was disclosed in a statement issued by the Media Information Officer of the Joint Task Force North-West, Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Danja.
According to the statement, on 20 July 2026, troops from the Forward Operating Bases in Shagari and Safawa, acting on credible intelligence, swiftly deployed to Wanke and Kaura communities in Shagari Local Government Area of Sokoto State following reports of terrorist activities.
The troops engaged the terrorists with superior firepower, successfully rescuing six kidnapped victims.
They also recovered livestock and two motorcycles during the operation.
The statement further revealed that on the same day, troops operating in Gandi, in collaboration with the Sokoto State Community Guard, rescued 10 kidnapped victims who escaped from their abductors at Badanma community in Rabah Local Government Area of the state.

Lieutenant Colonel Danja also stated that on 21 July 2026, troops responded to a distress call along the Gummi–Sokoto Highway after terrorists blocked the road. The troops engaged the criminals, rescued 11 kidnapped victims, and recovered one motorcycle.
The Theatre Command commended the troops for their swift and courageous response, urging them to sustain the ongoing offensive against terrorists.
It also called on members of the public to continue providing timely and credible information to security agencies to enhance ongoing counter-banditry operations.
