The Federal Government says its economic reforms are creating new opportunities for foreign investment as Nigeria moves to deepen trade and economic cooperation with Denmark.
The commitment was made by the Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Abubakar Bagudu, during a meeting with the Danish Ambassador to Nigeria, Jens Ole Bach Hansen, and his delegation in Abuja, the nation’s capital.
Bagudu said the President Tinubu administration remains focused on creating a transparent, predictable and competitive business environment capable of attracting long-term private sector investment.
He noted that ongoing reforms are aimed at reversing decades of underinvestment in critical sectors of the economy while positioning Nigeria as a preferred investment destination on the African continent.
The Minister said the government is strengthening partnerships with countries that share its commitment to inclusive economic growth and sustainable development, adding that Denmark remains a strategic partner in achieving those objectives.
According to him, Nigeria has attracted about $7 billion in infrastructure investments over the past two years, a development he attributed to growing investor confidence in the country’s reform agenda.
Bagudu identified agriculture, livestock development, the digital economy, the blue economy and the judicial sector as priority areas where both countries can expand cooperation to drive economic diversification, technology transfer and job creation.
He added that beyond investment, Nigeria is seeking stronger collaboration with Denmark in trade, knowledge exchange, peace and security as well as efforts to address common global challenges, including irregular migration.
The Danish Ambassador, Jens Ole Bach Hansen reaffirmed his country’s commitment to expanding its engagement with Nigeria, describing the relationship as one built on shared values and mutual economic interests.
The ambassador announced plans to expand Denmark’s diplomatic presence in Nigeria with a larger embassy and additional diplomatic personnel to strengthen cooperation in politics, defence, agriculture and commercial development.
He also disclosed that Denmark is increasing private sector investment through the Investment Fund for Developing Countries and is exploring new partnerships in education, the creative economy, maritime development and the digital economy.
Both countries agreed to deepen economic engagement and explore a formal political partnership framework to support increased trade, investment and sustainable development.
