A coalition of Election Observers have called on the independent National Electoral Commission, INEC to fully transmit results of the Osun State Governorship and 2027 General Election electronically.
The election observers who were on a panel at Yiaga Africa’s Policy roundtable on election results electronic transmission and collation in Abuja, agreed that both the collation and transmission should be conducted electronically to strengthen the integrity of the exercise
The talks focused on how to fine tune Sections 62 to 65 of the Electoral Act 2026 which Is yet to mandate INEC to fully transmit election results electronically, instead it leaves the action at the doorstep of the electoral body to make the final decision.
At the YIAGA Africa’s Policy roundtable, the panelists expressed concerns that if INEC fails to transmit results of the forthcoming Osun governorship and the 2027 elections to the Results Viewing Portal, IREV simultaneously, the Nigerian electoral system will continue to lose its credibility.
