Nigeria’s Inspector-General of Police, Tunji Disu, has issued a stern directive to officers across the country: do not wait for orders—act decisively against criminal elements bearing illegal firearms under Force Order 327.

Speaking at a high-stakes security Town Hall meeting in Makurdi, the Benue State capital, the Police Chief pledged a sweeping new push to end years of deadly attacks across the State.

The visit marks a pivotal moment for a State long on the front lines of insecurity, with a crucial gathering thst brought together top Police brass, community leaders, and government stakeholders.

Addressing the audience, the IGP made it clear that the era of passive policing is over.

For the State Governor, Hyacinth Alia, local intelligence and rapid response are paramount.

Backing his words with action, the Governor announced newly approved, State-wide coordinated operations—while making a firm pitch for structural reforms.

Community stakeholders did not mince words as traditional and religious leaders pushed back hard against narratives framing the crisis as mere reprisal clashes —insisting that innocent citizens are being targeted by armed criminal groups.

The Police Chief pledged to make regular visits to the State until stability is restored, and for the people of Benue, the real test lies in how quickly these promises translate into safety on the ground.

With both Federal police authorities and the State government committing to heightened operational support, the expectations in Benue are at an all-time high.
