An Enugu Air aircraft operating a scheduled flight into Benin Airport has been involved in a runway excursion after landing. While all 68 passengers and crew members were safely evacuated without injuries, the incident has once again drawn attention to the importance of runway safety and the aviation industry’s emergency response procedures.

The aircraft, a 5N-BZN operated by Enugu Air, veered off the runway after landing at Benin Airport. The airline confirmed that all 68 passengers and crew were safely evacuated to the terminal building, with no injuries or fatalities recorded.

In a statement, Enugu Air said the aircraft has been secured, while the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) and the Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB), alongside other relevant aviation agencies, have been notified in accordance with established safety procedures. The airline said investigations are underway to determine the cause of the runway excursion.

The exact cause has yet to be established, but investigators are expected to examine flight data, weather conditions, aircraft performance and airport infrastructure before reaching any conclusions.

Enugu Air also advised passengers to expect temporary adjustments to some flight schedules as recovery efforts continue. The airline said affected passengers would be contacted directly and provided with the necessary support.

The incident adds to recent safety occurrences within Nigeria’s aviation sector, underscoring the industry’s emphasis on robust safety management systems, prompt emergency response and transparent investigations.
