The Theatre Command of Operation Fansan Yamma has confirmed the abduction of the Chairman of Bungudu Local Government Area of Zamfara State, North-West Nigeria, Nura Umar, during a terrorist attack on his residence in the early hours of Saturday.
In a statement issued by the Media Information Officer of the Joint Task Force North-West, Lieutenant-Colonel Aliyu Danja, the command said armed terrorists stormed the residence of the Bungudu Local Government Chairman, abducting him and some members of his family after overpowering his police and vigilante security details.
The statement said troops of Operation Fansan Yamma, upon hearing gunshots, responded immediately and engaged the terrorists in a fierce gun battle.
During the exchange of fire, the troops successfully rescued five members of the chairman’s family, including two of his children, his mother, his wife, and another relative. However, the terrorists escaped into the surrounding bushes with the chairman.

According to the statement, the attack claimed the lives of three members of the chairman’s security team, including two police officers and one vigilante. A civilian was also killed, while the chairman’s brother sustained injuries during the attack.
The Theatre Command said it has launched a coordinated search-and-rescue operation involving troops of Operation Fansan Yamma, the Nigeria Police Force, the Department of State Services, DSS, and local vigilante groups to secure the safe release of the abducted chairman.
The command appealed to members of the public to remain calm and provide credible information through established security channels to support the ongoing rescue operation.
