President Bola Tinubu has appointed Dr. Wasiu Olanrewaju-Smart as the new Special Adviser to the President on National Assembly Matters (House of Representatives), with immediate effect.
Olanrewaju-Smart replaces Hon. Ibrahim Olanrewaju, who resigned from the position to contest for an elective office in his home state.
According to a statement issued by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, on Sunday, the new appointee brings extensive experience in legislative affairs, public policy and governance, having served in various strategic roles within the National Assembly and the Presidency.
Before his appointment, Olanrewaju-Smart was the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Intergovernmental Affairs, a position he assumed in October 2023.
He previously served as Chief of Staff to the Speaker of the House of Representatives, after holding several positions including Research and Media Assistant, Special Adviser and Deputy Chief of Staff in the National Assembly.
A public policy expert and scholar, Olanrewaju-Smart holds a doctorate in Educational Management from Lead City University, a Master’s degree in Public Administration from Harvard University, and has participated in several international policy and leadership programmes, including fellowships at the Harvard Kennedy School and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
The Presidency said President Tinubu is confident that Olanrewaju-Smart will deploy his experience, expertise and commitment to strengthen legislative coordination and deepen relations between the Presidency, Ministries, Departments and Agencies, and the House of Representatives.
