Three suspects have been arrested in connection with the lynching of 23-year-old Ibrahim Mbaya, who was allegedly beaten to death after being accused of stealing an iPhone in Plateau State. Police have warned that anyone who takes the law into their own hands will face the full weight of the law.
According to the Plateau State Police Command, Ibrahim Mbaya was accused of stealing an iPhone before he was allegedly attacked by a mob and severely beaten by the suspects. He reportedly lost consciousness and was rushed to the Jos University Teaching Hospital, where doctors confirmed him dead on arrival.
Condemning the incident, the Police Command urged members of the public to refrain from taking the law into their own hands and instead report suspected offenders to security agencies for lawful investigation and prosecution.
Among the three suspects paraded were two brothers, including the owner of the allegedly stolen iPhone.
The Police Command also announced the arrest of a fourth suspect in connection with the case. All four suspects have been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation and possible prosecution.
