As Nigeria joins the rest of the world to commemorate the 2026 World Day Against Trafficking in Persons, the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) and says the fight against the menace is non-negotiable.
In 2026, the fight against sexual exploitation and human trafficking in Nigeria reached a new intensity.
NAPTIP recorded 2,355 sexual offenders.
Of these, 456 have been convicted,
1,182 still await trial,
and 265 remain under investigation.
Director-General Binta Adamu Bello reaffirmed the agency’s unwavering commitment.
The increasing number of Nigerians rescued from Mali and other countries underscores the need for a coordinated national framework that guarantees the safe return, rehabilitation, reintegration and empowerment of victims which draws global attention to one of the fastest-growing dimensions of human trafficking—the exploitation of people through online fraud schemes and cyber-enabled criminal enterprises.

The world day against trafficking in persons is marked on July 30, every year.
These success stories were achieved through partnerships with international allies and civil society organisations, confronting transnational crimes and sexual exploitation head-on.
