The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC has released the credentials and personal details of President Bola Tinubu and Vice President, Kashim Shettima as presidential and vice presidential candidates of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC in the 2027 general elections.
The electoral body also published the profiles of Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC presidential candidate, Peter Obi, his running mate Rabi’u Kwankwaso. Also on the list are African Democratic Congress, ADC, candidate, Atiku Abubakar and his running mate, Rotimi Amaechi.
Section 29(3) of the 2026 Electoral Act states that INEC is required to make candidates’ personal particulars public within 21 days of receiving them, allowing voters and stakeholders to scrutinise the documents submitted by their political parties to the Commission.
Details published include certificates of academic qualifications and other supporting documents submitted by candidates seeking elective offices.

The publication of the documents comes ahead of the official commencement of campaigns for the 2027 presidential and National Assembly elections on August 19.
Speaking on behalf of the Resident Electoral Commissioner, in the Federal Capital Territory, FCT while displaying the credentials and personal documents of the candidates, the Administrative Secretary, Bimbo Oladunjoye says the exercise also involves documents submitted by National Assembly candidates ahead of the January 16, 2027 elections.
Oladunjoye further highlighted that the Commission is on course with its schedule of activities to deliver on its mandate of conducting credible 2027 general elections.
The public display of particulars of candidates contesting elections in Nigeria in their respective constituencies is a key provision of the law as contained in Section 29, Subsection 3 of the Electoral Act, 2026.
