Seven students of Gateway ICT Polytechnic, Saapade, in Remo North Local Government Area of Ogun State, who were abducted earlier this week, have regained their freedom following a coordinated rescue operation by the Nigeria Police force and other security agencies in the state.
The successful operation was announced by Governor Dapo Abiodun during a press briefing at the Governor’s Office, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.
The Governor confirmed that all seven students were rescued alive and have been reunited with their families, while one of the victims, who sustained injuries during an exchange of gunfire between security operatives and the kidnappers, is receiving medical attention and in a stable condition.
Governor Dapo Abiodun disclosed that the rescue mission received a major boost after the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu had approved the deployment of a Police helicopter for aerial surveillance, which significantly impacted on the successful rescue of the students.

Governor Abiodun said Ogun State remains a no go area for criminal elements, warning that kidnappers and armed bandits should steer clear of the state as the government continues to strengthen its security architecture to safeguard lives and property.
Also speaking, the Commissioner of Police, Ogun State Command, Bode Ojajuni, revealed that no ransom was paid for the release of the students.
He explained that their freedom was secured solely through the professionalism, intelligence gathering, and coordinated efforts of the Police, the military, Amotekun Corps, and other security agencies involved in the operation.
