Emerging risks and changing patterns of fire incidents have brought to the fore the challenges it poses to firefighters and public safety.
Controller-General of the Federal Fire Service, Olumode Adeyemi, stated this in Abuja at a one-day National Stakeholders’ Summit on Fire Safety, with the theme, “Building a Resilient Fire Service for the 21st Century.”
As fire incidents continue to present new and complex risks, stakeholders in the fire safety sector are calling for stronger collaboration, improved preparedness, and innovative approaches to disaster management.
Adeyemi says the changing nature of fire emergencies requires stakeholders to rethink existing strategies and adopt more effective measures to protect lives and property.
He also advocated stronger collaboration among private business owners and corporate organisations, urging them to invest in establishing fire stations across the country.
The summit also featured the induction of 37 Federal Fire Service Public Relations Officers, drawn from the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory, into the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations, NIPR.
Speaking at the event, NIPR President, Dr. Ike Neliaku, advised officers on the need for effective public communication for better results.
The summit serves as a reminder that a collaborative effort is required in building a resilient fire service for the 21st century.
