Following the restructuring of the Nigerian Army by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, which increased the number of divisions from eight to twelve, residents of Kwara State have described the move as timely and a major boost to the fight against insecurity.

The residents stated this during a road walk in Ilorin, the Kwara State Capital organised to commend President Tinubu and the military authorities for the bold move to restore security across the state.

The four new division headquarters are located in Makurdi, Benue State; Ilorin, Kwara State; Jalingo, Taraba State; and Benin City, Edo State. In Kwara, Omu-Aran in Irepodun Local Government Area will host the new Army battalion serving Kwara South, a region that has experienced security challenges, including attacks and displacement.

The youth groups, while commending president Tinubu, said the development would strengthen military operations, restore public confidence, and enhance the protection of communities.

Kwara State Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, expressed optimism that the new security architecture would provide stronger protection for the state, while the military leadership led by Brigadier General Nicholas Rume assured that the deployment would enhance peace and stability across Kwara South and beyond.

With parts of Kwara South and North previously affected by banditry, terrorism, kidnapping, and killings, residents are now hopeful that the increased military presence will restore lasting peace and security across affected communities.
