The Federal Road Safety Corps FRSC says 110 people lost their lives in 234 road crashes in Niger State between January and July 2026.
The FRSC Sector Commander in Niger, Aishat Sa’adu, who disclosed this during the decoration of 145 newly promoted officers of the command in Minna said the crashes involved 309 vehicles and 1,938 people, with 892 people sustaining injuries.
It was an atmosphere filled with tears of joy as the 145 personnel comprising 39 officers and 106 marshals were decorated with their various ranks.
For the sector commander, Aisha Sa’adu, the success behind the promotion is the command’s readiness to keep reducing road traffic-related accidents to a bare minimum, as it did, achieving a 50 per cent reduction in 2026 compared to 2025.
Sa’adu further attributed the improvement to regular awareness and sensitisation campaigns for road users, as well as routine patrols by officers of the command, hence charging the newly promoted personnel to sustain the tempo.
For the promoted officers, it is more than just a decoration but a renewed commitment to safer roads, upholding professionalism.
During the period under review, Sa’adu said 415 traffic offenders had been prosecuted through 14 mobile court sittings conducted this year as she attributed the crashes recorded in the state to wrongful overtaking, overloading, particularly by heavy-duty vehicles, and overspeeding.
