Troops of Operation ENDURING PEACE have neutralized a suspected terrorist and recovered two AK-47 rifles and other items during an intelligence-led operation in Wase Local Government Area of Plateau State.
The operation was conducted by troops of Sector 2 deployed at Zak Village in Wase LGA at about 9:50 a.m. on Saturday, August 29, 2026, as part of ongoing efforts to disrupt the activities of criminal elements and deny terrorists freedom of action within the Joint Operations Area.
In a statement issued on Sunday, August 30, the Media Information Officer of the Joint Task Force, Operation ENDURING PEACE, Captain Chinonso Polycarp Oteh, said the troops were conducting stop-and-search operations when they intercepted a green-coloured Volkswagen Golf with registration number DKA-808XM.
According to the statement, the troops discovered a specially fabricated and concealed compartment inside the vehicle’s dashboard while attempting to search the car.
The driver reportedly refused to open the compartment and fled into a nearby bush. The troops pursued and apprehended him.
The statement said the suspect subsequently attempted to disarm one of the soldiers during the arrest and was neutralized in the process.
A search of the vehicle led to the recovery of two AK-47 rifles, one magazine, two wooden rifle butts, nine magazine pouches, two camel bags, six jungle hats, a mobile phone and an ATM card.
The Commander of Operation ENDURING PEACE, Major General Maxwell Dangana, commended the troops for their decisive action and urged them to sustain the momentum in ongoing offensive operations against criminal elements across the Joint Operations Area.
He also appreciated residents for their continued support and called for increased cooperation through the provision of timely and actionable information to security agencies.
Major General Dangana said such collaboration would enable the troops to effectively discharge their constitutional responsibility of protecting lives and property.
