The Edo State Government has entered into a strategic partnership with the State of the African Diaspora, an affiliate group under the African Union, aimed at attracting investment and accelerating development across critical sectors of the state.
The partnership focuses on the proposed Gele Seaport near Benin City, railway infrastructure, agriculture, and other areas with potential for economic growth.
The agreement followed a meeting between Governor Monday Okpebholo and the Prime Minister of the State of the African Diaspora, Dr. Louis-Georges Tin, who led a delegation to the Edo State Government House in Benin City.
Governor Okpebholo expressed appreciation to the delegation for choosing Edo State as an investment destination, saying the partnership would create new opportunities for diaspora investors and contribute to the state’s development.
Speaking on the partnership, Louis-Georges Tin said the initiative goes beyond economic cooperation, describing it as an opportunity for Africans in the Diaspora to reconnect with their roots and contribute to development in Africa.
Both parties are expected to constitute joint teams to develop and implement priority projects, particularly in the areas of transportation, agriculture, and infrastructure.
The State of the African Diaspora is a transnational initiative that seeks to organize and represent people of African descent around the world as an integral part of the African family.
It is connected to the African Union’s broader framework for engaging the African diaspora, which the AU recognizes as an important component of the continent’s development and integration.
