The Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore Fulani Socio-Cultural Association has appealed to President Bola Tinubu to intervene in the continued detention of its leader, Abdullahi Bello Bodejo.
The association, through its North Central Chairman, Idris Gidado Bebeji, says Bodejo was rearrested by the Department of State Services, DSS, on August 28. This comes after he had earlier spent almost four months in the custody of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC.
The group says Bodejo was first arrested in Jalingo, Taraba State, on the same day he declared his intention to contest for the Taraba Central Senatorial District seat.
It is calling on President Tinubu, the National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu, the Attorney-General of the Federation Lateef Fagbemi, the leadership of the All Progressives Congress APC, and relevant security agencies to review the circumstances surrounding his continued detention.
While acknowledging the responsibility of security agencies to investigate alleged offences, the association urged that Bodejo’s constitutional rights be respected and that due process be followed.
It also appealed to its members and the wider Fulani pastoral community to remain calm and law-abiding.
The association said its call is for justice, fairness and due process, and not a challenge to constituted authority.
