After a decade-long vacuum, the Ondo State Sports Council now has a new board, led by its Chairman, Oladimeji Abimbola.
Abimbola, who assumed office alongside other board members on Wednesday, has vowed to urgently restructure the council and revive the state’s dwindling sporting fortunes, saying there is no time for complacency.
The new chairman said restructuring the council would provide a clear direction for its operations and enable the board to identify and tackle the factors responsible for the decline of sports in the state over the years.
The board identified the welfare of athletes, coaches and other sports officials, as well as the rehabilitation of sports facilities, as key priorities of the new administration.
The new board says its immediate focus is to restore confidence in the state’s sporting system and create an environment capable of producing athletes who can compete successfully at national and international levels.
