Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, has appealed to President Bola Tinubu and the Nigerian Army to site the headquarters of the newly created 83 Division in the state.
The Governor made the plea when he received a committee from the Army Headquarters on a consultative visit to the Government House in Asaba.
Adiri Akpomeriene has the details.
Receiving the committee from the Army, Governor Sheriff Oborevwori argued that Delta is strategically positioned to host the division headquarters because of its central location and its concentration of critical national oil and gas assets.
Governor Oborevwori also added that the state has three airports and four seaports, making it suitable for the formation.
Responding, the Chief of Army Standards and Evaluation, Major General Thompson Bobby, revealed that the Army had proposed an Air Defence Regiment for Osubi due to its proximity to the airport.
He stressed that the Army’s deployment strategy was aimed at ensuring geographical spread and reducing response time to security threats across the division’s area of responsibility.
