It was a colourful celebration in Ikot Ekpene Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom state as Governor Umo Eno inaugurates a 6.47 kilometres road in Amayam community.
The project is the third of 39 projects lined up to mark Akwa Ibom State’s 39th anniversary, bringing relief to residents who endured decades of poor road access.
Commissioning the project, Governor Umo Eno thanked the people for their support and reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to rural development.
The Governor said the project survived significant challenges, including an upward review of more than 50 percent in its initial contract cost.
He stressed that development should be driven by its impact on the people rather than sentiments.
Governor Eno described the road as strategically important to trade and commerce, while listing other projects executed by his administration in Ikot Ekpene and promising more interventions.
The Commissioner for Works and Fire Service, Professor Eno Ibanga, described the project as a complete infrastructural ecosystem reflecting the Governor’s commitment to inclusive development , while the Ikot Ekpene Council Chairman, Aniefiok Nkom, and Senator Emmanuel Ibokessien commended Governor Eno for transforming communities previously plagued by poor infrastructure and rural-urban migration.
The new roads will improve access, boost commerce and unlock greater economic opportunities for Amayam and surrounding communities.
