With the 2027 elections approaching, the National Council of Women’s Societies, NCWS, is demanding greater political participation and representation for Nigerian women.
The council says that despite their significant contributions to the economy, women remain underrepresented in elective positions and decision-making.
It called on governments, political parties, and the private sector to remove barriers to women’s participation and provide greater access to leadership, training, and campaign financing.
Against the backdrop of political tension and insecurity, the council is also bringing women together to discuss issues around peace, democracy and inclusive governance.
The gathering will centre on Women as Catalysts for Peace, Democracy and Inclusive Governance
For the NCWS, women must no longer be seen only as voters but as active participants in shaping Nigeria’s political future.
