The Justice, Development and Peace Commission of the Catholic Diocese of Lokoja has called on the Nigerian government to review the conditions required for the establishment and operation of private schools in Nigeria.

Coordinator of the commission, Reverend Father Anthony Okafor who was on an advocacy outreach to some schools in Lokoja in commemoration of this year’s International Day of Education said there is need to sanitise the sector.

The Lokoja Catholic Diocesan (JDPC) visited Bishop Delise College, where students were given orientation about their rights and advised to change their attitude to learning.

Worried about the gruesome abduction and murder of five-year old Hanifa Abubakar in Kano, the JDPC coordinator said there is the urgent need to review the operating licences issued to private schools in Nigeria.

This was as the students called for free education and secured learning environment especially in Northern Nigeria where activities of terrorists have kept students out of classrooms.

The Maltina Teacher for the year 2021 in Kogi State, Dickson Unekwu made a case for the protection of female students just as the college principal called on other teachers in the State to develop themselves with digital teaching skills as current realities have shown that some students are even more digitally knowledgeable than they are.
