Akwa Ibom State Governor, Umo Eno says the Ibom International hospital in Uyo currently under construction will emerge as a world-class medical centre.
He said this during an inspection of the project in Uyo, the state capital, barely two months after the groundbreaking ceremony of the 350-bed facility.
His visit was to assess the pace and quality of work, where he commended the project team for its commitment.
The Governor said the hospital is part of his administration’s sustained investment in healthcare, stressing that the wellbeing of the people remains central to his development agenda.
Governor Eno also renewed his call on residents to embrace health insurance, warning that specialised treatment and surgical procedures could be beyond the reach of many families paying out-of-pocket.
Commissioner for Health, Dr. Ekem John, said about 40 medical consultants, alongside local and international experts, contributed to the hospital’s design and planning.
With construction progressing simultaneously across three major wings, the project team says it is working to beat the June 2027 delivery target.
The facility is expected to strengthen specialised healthcare delivery and improve access to quality medical services in Akwa Ibom.
